Robbery Attacks Gained Center Stage In Subin Constituency


Students within subin constituency in the Ashanti Region are currently living in fear and panic, following the prevailing crime and robbery attacks which have gained a center stage in the area.


The exponential rise of criminal activities in the area on daily basis during night hours still appears not to be an issue of concern for security authorities in the region hence, their reluctance in expediting action to help solve the situation despite the daily reports on residents and students becoming victim to criminals.

Speaking in an exclusive dialogue with News Ghana, residents in the communities including Asem, Fante New, students of Kumasi polytechnic, Baptist university, Ghana school of Languages and the Anglican Senior high school in their lamentations appealed to the Kumasi metropolitan assembly and the Ashanti Regional Police Command to come to their aid by providing a police post in the area to curtail the situation.

Some of the students in the area also explained that, most of them are sometimes attacked by robbers and they take away their belongings including laptops, Mobile phones, money and among others.

They indicated that, there were times that some of the victims were stabbed to death in the process.
A level 200 marketing student at Kumasi polytechnic university, Michael Kwadwo Abban also shared his experience, that he was robbed and stabed in his right tigh at about 7:30 pm when returning from studies to his hostel.

He said, he tried screaming for help but no one showed up and was left for about 45 minutes before a good Samaritan could come around to take him to the hospital.

Reports to the zongo police station in the area he lamented, yielded no result and that not even a single soul has since been arrested.

The assembly member of the area, Hon. Thomas Ekow Sackey (a.k.a Ogunde), confirmed and accused both Hon. Samuel Sarpong and Hon. kwadwo Bonsu, former KMA bosses as the cause of the above mentioned since several letters written to them to help address the issue was not attended to.

Hon. Sackey added that, the robbers are not only their problem. He underscored another challenge as cattles and sanitation in the area.
