Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez married in a civil ceremony at their Cascais home on 11 August, but the small guest list was a matter of timing rather than taste.

Rodríguez told Vogue the couple intend to hold a large wedding later so they can celebrate with family and friends, citing a crowded year of work commitments, competitions and children. That detail reframes the ceremony that surprised fans: a deferral, not a rejection of the grand event many expected.

The date carried its own logic. The two met in a Gucci store on 11 August 2016, and the wedding fell exactly ten years later. The forward is 41 and Rodríguez is 32.

Five children attended: twins Eva Maria and Mateo, both 9, Alana, 8, Bella, 4, and 16-year-old Cristiano Jr., whom Ronaldo had in a previous relationship. The couple had moved into the Cascais house only months earlier after spending years building it. They visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Fátima for a private blessing after the ceremony.

Rodríguez said her childhood picture of a wedding involved a castle, a carriage, a long dress and a diamond crown. She has since revised it.

“I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home,” she said.

Her reasoning turned on scarcity. Castles, houses, islands, horses and cars are within the family’s reach on any given day, she said, which makes a small private occasion the rarer thing. She said they chose the living room because it is where the family eats and lives, and she wants the children to look back in three decades and know their parents exchanged vows at that table.

Gucci dressed both of them, closing a loop on where they met. Rodríguez wore a white silk skirt suit with matching satin shoes and Ronaldo a light beige cotton suit with custom loafers. The three daughters wore beige dresses; Mateo and Cristiano Jr. wore white shirts with beige trousers.

Earlier Portuguese reporting had pointed to Funchal Cathedral in Madeira as the venue. Whether that plan resurfaces for the larger celebration remains unstated.
