Sanitary Officer remanded for defilement

A Circuit Court in Accra has remanded into Police custody a sanitary officer for allegedly defiling a 13 year old girl at Mataheko a suburb in Accra.

Phanuel Dzanza, 45, charged with defilement has pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mrs Jennifer Myles Ahmed.

He will re-appear in court on November 18.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo said the complainant was a 40 year-old trader whiles accused person works at Zoomlion Services.

ASP Boafo said both the accused and complainant reside in the same house at Mataheko. On June 4, this year at about 2:00pm Dzanza asked the victim to buy him some sachet water.

Prosecution said immediately the victim brought the water, Dzanza dragged her into his room and onto his three in one sofa chair and had sex with her.

The prosecutor said Dzanza threatened the victim not to inform anyone about it but she disclosed her ordeal to her mother who in turn reported the matter to the Police.

ASP Boafo said the complainant was issued with a medical form to attend hospital so the victim could be examined and treated.

Prosecution said accused person was picked up by Police and detained after the medical form confirmed that the victim had been defiled.
