The Sekyere Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church, the Reverend Ernest Odame Asare, has asked Ghanaians to step back from lawlessness and indiscipline.

He spoke against unrestrained destruction of the environment through illegal mining, multiple land sales and violent conduct of political party supporters and said if the nation was to make significant headway in development, these could not continue.

What was making the situation even more disturbing, he noted, was the involvement and tacit approval of these acts by some prominent people including chiefs.

The Rev Asare was delivering the sermon at the 14th session and thanksgiving service of the presbytery held at Effiduasi.

“When the Holy Spirit moves, there is peace” was the theme chosen for the event.

He urged the church to boldly condemn anything undignified and unhelpful to the image and the peace of the country.

The Rev Asare used the occasion to remind public officials and everybody in position of trust to be accountable, open and transparent in whatever they did.

It was important they put the interest and welfare of those they were leading ahead of personal comfort and convenience, he added.

He rallied the people to stand solidly behind the government in the implementation of its development agenda.

That, he indicated, was not to say that they should not point out any mistakes, it made.

Awards were presented to individuals and groups who had made unique contribution to the growth of the presbytery.
