Armed robbers stormed a bank in Igarra district of the state, shooting sporadically and ransacking the financial organization, a state police spokesman, Stanley Osifo, said.
He however could not ascertain the number of casualties as of the time of filing this report.
Witnesses said several people lost their lives as the robbers shot at bank depositors and security forces on guard in the area.
A security officer was among those killed in the incident which lasted for one hour, a police source said, adding many people sustained injuries.
The area has been cordoned off with security tightened, the state police spokesman said, promising to give further details after investigation. Enditem
