The Bibiani Police say contrary to earlier reports that six prisoners forcibly broke out of jail and absconded, the suspects appear to have been aided by the negligence of the officers on duty.

According to District Police Commander Superintendent Francis Ennor, preliminary investigations indicate the padlock to the ?well-fortified? cell was left open while the two officers on duty slept the night away.

Indeed, the two officers were woken up by a suspect who was afraid to abscond with the others.

Six persons on remand for various crimes including murder were declared missing from the cells of the Bibiani Police over the weekend. Two of them were re-arrested on Saturday, while the others remain at large.

Supt Ennor told Adom News the Command has received a tip that some of the suspects are in Tano Odumasi in the Ashanti Region, and his men are following up.

In the meantime, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and the appropriate lessons and sanctions applied, Supt Ennor added.
