Soldiers deployed in offices and facilities of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria remained on Wednesday.

Daily Times checks revealed that government may keep the soldiers in PHCN facilities until the handover to new owners is completed.

The soldiers were posted to the facilities on Friday November 1, 2013 in response to threats by PHCN workers to prevent the takeover of PHCN successor companies and assets by private power firms.

PHCN employees had said they would not cooperate with the new owners until government settles their severance benefits.

In response, government said it had cleared the benefits of a large number of PHCN employees. The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said those yet to be settled had issues with their biometric details, adding that the matter was being sorted out.

Daily Times learnt that many employees in the marketing units of PHCN have yet to receive their severance pay. A source said they were being settled in batches.

More details later.
