Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has appointed two ministers after the resignation of information minister.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, Khaire appointed Mohammed Abdi Hayir as the minister of information, culture and tourism, replacing Dahir Mohamud Guelleh, who resigned on Wednesday over what he termed as “strained relations” within the government. Guelleh, who has been in office for barely a year, becomes the fifth minister to resign since the current administration took office in early 2017. Khaire also appointed Abdullahi Ali Hassan as the new minister of commerce and industry.
The latest resignation comes amid numerous challenges facing the government in the run-up to the 2020 elections, which is part of the state-building process implemented by the government with the help of the UN Mission in Somalia.
