A laid-back army of people?still insists that?marijuana isn?t addictive, but let?s at least admit that some people like it a little too much. And for those who can?t help themselves, help may be on the way. A research team headed by psychiatry professor Robert Schwarcz at the University of Maryland worked on some doped-up rats and monkeys and learned that kynurenic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the brain, can blunt the pleasurable effects of THC by stifling dopamine. Not only that, boosted levels of the acid kept the subject animals from returning to their old loadie ways. Results have yet to be validated in humans, and naturally there?s a possibility of unintentional impact on other parts of the brain.[Source]
