He said as part of measures to empower the youth, the Council would be organising entrepreneurship training programmes as well vocational training for the teeming unemployed.
Shiekh Maikano who doubles as the Spiritual Leader of the Tijaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana made this known when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Andrew Barnes, the Australian High Commissioner in Accra.
He mentioned agriculture and aquaculture as some of the business ventures that the youth would be given the needed training.
“A major challenge confronting the youth of this country is unemployment and the Tijaniyya Muslim Council would be assisting them with the required technical and vocational training skills,” he said.
Sheikh Maikano however appealed to institutions and other philanthropists to come to the aid of the Council to be able to fully execute its programme for the youth.
He also called for collaboration with the High Commission to help provide the needed skills for the unemployed youth.
He said the Council would continue to teach the youth the recitation of the Holy Quran to make their life meaningful.
Sheikh Maikano said the Council would also be organising forum across the country to educate the youth on the need to ensure peace during and after the December 7 general election.
Mr Andrew Barnes, the Australian Commissioner expressed joy for the visit, adding that the peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed in Ghana needs to be maintained.
He expressed the hope that the partnership between the Tijaniyya Muslim Council and the High Commission would be strengthened to promote development.
