An accident in Ethiopia’s central Oromia regional state has killed three people, an Ethiopian official said on Tuesday.
Aschalew Alemu, communications head at Fentale locality, East Shoa zone, Oromia regional state, said the accident happened on Monday evening, when two trucks travelling on opposites sides of a road collided with each other, killing three and wounding two others, state-run Ethiopia News Agency reported.
Alemu said police have determined the cause of the accident to be careless driving and speeding.
Ethiopia, with one of the lowest per capita car ownership in the world, often encounters deadly traffic accidents with blames put on bad roads, a flawed driving license issuance system and poor enforcement of road safety.
Traffic accidents during the Ethiopian fiscal year 2016-17, which ended on July 8, 2017, led to the deaths of 4,500 people, according to Ethiopia Federal Transport Authority. Enditem
