A cocoa porter, Mohammed Sulemana, who is believed to be in his early 30s and works at the Takoradi Port, was yesterday beheaded by a moving train at a spot near the level crossing at the Takoradi Habour main gate around 6:00am.

Eyewitnesses? accounts said that Sulemana was hit by the train while he was walking on the tracks and making a phone call.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the train was moving from the New Takoradi area to a workshop at the railway station after conveying some workers to their various destinations, when the accident happened.

Others also intimated that the man was walking on the tracks while sniffing some substance when he was knocked down by the vehicle.

The eyewitnesses could not fathom why the man did not run away from the tracks when the driver of the train had apparently seen him and was tooting the horn.

They believed that the deceased might have been intoxicated after sniffing the substance.

DAILY GUIDE reporter discovered that the left hand was mutilated while there were injuries on the severed head.

The body of the deceased was said to have been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue in Sekondi for autopsy.

Briefing the DAILY GUIDE yesterday, a source at the Takoradi Port debunked the assertion that the deceased was a worker at the port.

He said he received a call that a train had killed a man ?and so we proceeded to the scene and found his body by the railway line.?

When DAILY GUIDE contacted ASP Charles Osei, the Takoradi Port Police Station Officer, he confirmed the accident but remarked, ?I am yet to be briefed with the details. We want to know who this man is, where he comes from and whether he is a worker at the port.?
