The men were on a bike crossing the railway when the incident occurred

A commercial motorcyclist and his passenger were on Sunday crushed to death by a train at Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred at about 10.00 a.m. with the train driver failing to toot his horn.
He said the bike man was about crossing, with his tyres already on the rail, when he suddenly saw the train. The locomotive crushed both of them instantly.
The source said the iron bar that was supposed to barricade the rail track in order to stop vehicles and motorcycles from crossing has not been working for the past two years.
It was gathered that the passenger took his pregnant wife who was in labour to the hospital. However, he was short of money and boarded the bike to convey him to the place where he would to collect money to offset his wife’s medical bills.
The state police released the corpses to the deceased’s family members at about 3.00p.m.
