UEW Gets An Audiology Clinic Van

The Rotary Club of Accra – Labone, Ghana in partnership with it sister club in Llanelli- Wales in United Kingdom (UK) on Thursday donated a Mobile Audiology Clinic Van (the HARK) to the Center for Hearing and Speech Services Department of the University of Education, Winneba.wpid-Rotary20Club.gif

It is to make it possible to assess patients with hearing problems in the Central and Western regions.

Mr. Frank Osafo-Tekyi, President of Rotary Club Accra ?Labone, said in a statement issued by the club at a handing over ceremony of the HARK at Winneba that building the equipmient and shipment from UK to Ghana was the initiative of Dr. Yaw Nyadu Offei, an Audiologist at UEW and a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar.

Mr. Osafo-Tekyi said the van carries its own electricity generating facility to enable the electronic audiology screening equipment to be operated in areas without electricity, water and refrigerator for pharmaceutical services.

The president of branch club of Rotary in Ghana said the HARK is a vehicle purposely built for screening, assessing and managing auditory problems in Central and Western Regions where a high incidence of middle ear infections and permanent congenital hearing loss had been reported.

Prof. Akwesi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of UEW who received the keys of the Van cut a tap to signify the inauguration and handing over of the Van to the University, thanked the donors for the kind gesture.
