Unidentified hoodlums operating within Coka Junction along Asaba-Benin Expressway, Delta State have kidnapped two children of a 37-year-old woman begging for alms in the area.
The woman, identified as Lady Cecilia, in the early hours of Friday, broke down uncontrollably in tears when she discovered that her two kids who used to play around her opposite Ibuso-Ogwashi Uku road, Asaba were nowhere to be found.
Eyewitness said that a group of young men in a Nissan Corolla Car with no number plate had, on Thursday evening, stormed the spot while she was deeply asleep and forcibly took the children into the car after shooting sporadically to scare people away.
Unconfirmed sources said that the beggar was divorced by her husband when she took ill. Upon her refusal to part with the two kids, she was said to have left with them under the pretense of going to her parents? house.
While her profuse tears lasted, some police officers who were on patrol in the area and claimed to be of the A Division police station Asaba but pleaded anonymity said they were shocked when the woman was seen in tears, looking for her children.
Meanwhile, residents of the area are calling on security agents and state government to beef up security for fear of the unknown and incessant raid by hoodlums.
But in a reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, said she was yet to receive the report of the kidnap of the two kids. Sources said that an attempt had earlier been made on the kids by some persons believed to be kidnappers early last month.
Another source who does not want his name in the print, ?I suspect all the incidents are orchestrated by the husband who wanted his children. We were told that the woman hails from Isselu-Uku?.
