The United States says it did not request permission from Syria nor coordinate before conducting airstrikes against Islamic State militants and other terrorist groups.

Aircraft“We warned Syria not to engage US aircraft,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says.

“We did not coordinate our actions with the Syrian government. We did not provide advance notification to the Syrians at a military level, or give any indication of our timing on specific targets,” an email from Psaki reads.

She says Secretary of State John Kerry did not send a letter to the Syrian regime. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said he had received a letter from Kerry about the strikes.
