Reverend Samuel Amegboe, Pastor in charge of Awudome Tsito Area Assemblies of God Church, has advised students to use mobile phones in their possession to broaden their academic horizon.

He said instead of them using the device as a tool to develop themselves most students and youth used smart phones to unknowingly destroy their lives by accessing pornographic, horror and other negative films and messages.

Rev. Amegboe gave the advice in a sermon at the “compassion Sunday” celebration of Yayra Child Development Centre of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Edem Congregation, Adaklu Kodzobi.

The Centre, which has about 170 beneficiaries, is the children’s ministry of the church and funded by Compassion International Ghana, a Christian non-governmental organization that releases children from poverty in Jesus name.

The day was to raise funds for the completion of an ongoing office complex for the Centre which was being undertaken by the Church.

The theme of the sermon was “Our Counsellor” and) was taken from Genesis 11: 1 – 9, Acts 2: 1 – 21 and John 14: 15 – 17, 25 – 27.

Rev. Amegboe appealed to students to allow the Holy Spirit and their parents to be their counselors and always try to listen to their advice instead of their peers.

He entreated them to put their destiny in their own hands and always aspire to reach the apex of their academic ladder to become useful citizens in society.

Rev. Amegboe appealed to parents to have time for their children and monitor their movements and academic progress and said most children become wayward because their parents, though provided their needs failed to have time for them.

Rev. Amegboe urged Christians listen to the dictates of the Holy Spirit, who was the Counsellor adding that without Him their lives would be in turmoil.

There were poetry recitals and drama by the beneficiaries.

An appeal for funds in aid of the office project yielded over GHS 5,700.
