At a Regional Delegates Conference in Wa, Mr Sankaara polled 34 votes to beat the incumbent, Naa Abu who garnered 20 votes in the election that was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Mr Sankaara thanked the delegates for reposing their confidence in him and pledged to represent the interest of the region at the national level for the growth of NALAG.
Naa Abu said though disappointed promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the activities of the Association in the region to enhance performance.
Alhaji Mohammed K. Doku, President of NALAG said the Association is confronted with myriad of challenges that had retarded progress in the preceding two years.
However, challenges such as the appointment of a new General Secretary, strengthening of the national secretariat staff, revival of stalled relationship between NALAG and its partners both national and international levels were addressed by the effort of the leadership.
Other challenges that were overcome include database of the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, development of a new strategic business plan for the Association and the opening of regional secretariats of the Association.
The NALAG President drew the attention of members to some critical issues that need a resolution from members including rotation of Presidency of NALAG on regional basis to curtail the acrimonies and extravagant campaigns being gradually introduced into NALAG politics and amendment of some portions of its constitution.
Mr Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, Wa Municipal Chief Executive who chaired the conference called on assembly members to fully support the NALAG representative in order for him to be very effective in representing the region at the national level.
