Afua’s body has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue pending further investigations. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver, who rammed into her, has been arrested by the Suhum Police Command. The accident occurred as the yet-to-be-named driver veered off the Suhum-Accra road on to the funeral grounds, as he travelled from Kumasi, at top speed. Mourners rushed the young woman to the hospital but she did not survive. Afua’s sister, according to a mourner, also collapsed at the funeral grounds after witnessing the accident. She was also rushed to a private clinic at Suhum for care.
According to a mourner, who preferred to be anonymous, the deceased on Friday travelled from Prestea to join her family at Suhum for her late father’s funeral. The late father, Mr Adu Maxwell, also died from a car crash last month.
Also, two of Afua’s late father’s friends, who were en route to the funeral from Accra, were also involved in an accident on the Accra-Kumasi road at dawn.
The accident caused mourners to abandon the funeral grounds, thus, delaying the burial of Afua’s father. They trooped to the hospital to mourn Afua.
Suhum Police Commander Supt. Yahaya Muchiraru, who confirmed the accident, said his office had just started preliminary investigations.
