A forum for the youth in the Northern Region has been held in Tamale to update them on opportunities being created by various state institutions for them to take advantage of to improve their lot.
Representatives of Savannah Accelerated Development Authority, Youth Employment Agency, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana School Feeding Programme and Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) took turns to address the youth on their mandate and programmes.
The forum, organised by the League of Youth Association in collaboration with Youth Empowerment for Life, was on the theme: “New Era of Opportunities for Youth Development in Ghana: The Way Forward.”
Mr Abu Inusah, President of League of Youth Association said the provision of quality information at the right time for the youth was essential for their empowerment and development hence the forum.
Mr Inusah was of the view that even though various state institutions implemented youth-related programmes, many of the youth were unable to access information about them and to actively participate in those programmes hence the forum.
He said the engagement of the youth on various programmes would promote youth tolerance and enhance national peace and security.
Mr Ziblim Shaibu, Northern Regional Director of National Youth Authority said the Authority was focused on strengthening and ensuring that the general welfare issues of youth in the region would be addressed.
Mr Shaibu urged the youth to think critically and deliberate on matters to improve their welfare rather than engaging in political vigilantism, which was not good for the country’s democracy.
