Zambia and the European Union (EU) on Friday expressed commitment to build strong ties in various areas of mutual interest.

Munalula Nkandu, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the EU, and President of the European Council Charles Michel made the pledge when they held talks.

The Zambian envoy said the southern African nation wanted partnership in value addition of commodities and enhancement of trade with the EU.

In a statement, the Zambian envoy further said her government wanted its relations with the EU to be enhanced in the areas of trade, building capacity in alternative energy sources as well empowerment of the girl child and support to education, agriculture and economic governance.

On his part, the EU official said the organization is willing to build strong ties with Zambia for the mutual benefit of people.

He said the EU was aware of Zambia’s important role to various regional initiatives, hence the desire to collaborate with the southern African nation.

The EU, he said, has devised deliberate strategies to ensure that partnerships with Zambia and Africa as a whole were those that would be sustainable and beneficial to all parties. Enditem
