A total of 1,420 people were arrested in Zambia for various drug offenses in the third quarter of this year, its anti-drug agency said Monday.
The arrests represented a 10.2-percent drop from the second quarter, when 1,581 people were arrested for drug offenses, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said.
The agency said among the arrested, 80 were juveniles and 31 were foreign nationals, while 114 people have since been convicted in court.
The agency seized 4.68 tonnes of cannabis during the period, representing an 82.7-percent drop from the second quarter, when 26.98 tonnes were seized. Enditem
