Zambian Vice-President Inonge Wina on Friday said the government will take firm action against all those who have played a role in placement of 4,000 ghost workers on the public service payroll.

Recently, a government payroll cleanup exercise on the Copperbelt Province established that 4,000 public workers were unaccounted for, resulting in monthly losses through fraudulent management of the payroll.

Speaking during a vice-president’s question and answer session in parliament, the vice-president said all those who will be found wanting in the placement of the ghost workers on the payroll will lose their jobs.

The government, she said, was putting in place measures to address the situation through a comprehensive review and streamlining of operations in the management of the payroll. Enditem
