Cameroon’s National Gendarmerie said Wednesday that its troops have captured 13 armed robbery suspects and firearms in a recent operation in the commercial hub of Douala.
The operation, which took place between Aug. 18 and Aug. 23, was carried out in the city’s Bois des Singes neighborhood amid a recent increase in killings and robberies by armed bandits.
“This operation made it possible to get hold of the leader of the gang,” the gendarmerie said in a statement, adding that using the 34-year-old leader could make it possible for them to arrest other members of the gang, who range in age from 22 to 42 years old.
During the week-long operation, the gendarmes managed to seize a number of weapons and ammunition. The suspects will be held accountable for their actions in a military court. Enditem
