
Nigeria?s military has released 58 women and children related to Boko Haram insurgents that were arrested in connection with radical Islamist sect Boko Haram.
Authorities said on Friday that the prisoners were released in Adamawa and Borno states, two of the three states under emergency rule since President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on May 14.
The release of the prisoners was announced last week, a move that was reportedly recommended by the amnesty committee set up by the president to end Boko Haram violence in the north.
At a press conference in Maiduguri, some of the released boys made an appearance.
They young boys told journalists that they were used to plant bombs and carry weapons for Boko Haram fighters.
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state promised cash for those released.
