The Angolan government on Monday recommended that legal documents related to the process of organizing local elections be submitted to political consultation.

According to a press release on the recommendation of the Cabinet Council, which met on Monday, the aim of the public discussions is to gather opinions and solutions on the principle of gradualism according to the constitution.

The gathering of opinions will allow the government to address in depth the role and position of the traditional authorities, who continue receiving their salaries from state, as well as to analyze the transfer of competences of primary education, the first and second cycles to the mayor, according to the press release.

The cabinet meeting on Monday also passed a draft law that establishes the technical specifications and provisions on the differences and use of the flag, the insignia and the national anthem.

The draft will be submitted to the National Assembly for discussion and approval.

Angola is scheduled to hold its first local elections in the year 2020. Enditem
