The quest for Bayelsa United to win its second league title in three years was put on hold on Sunday when Yenegoa based team succumbed to the superior fireworks of rejuvenated Heartland FC of Owerri.

Eddy Ongolo?s lone strike gave Heartland a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United in a Nigeria league week 30 clash on Sunday.

Heartland now have 43 points from 30 matches.

Heartland captain Chinedu Efugh, who was rock-solid in the heart of defence again, admitted it was a tough match.

“It was a very tough game, Bayelsa played well. I was so sure we will win even when the first half ended goalless. It was a good win for us. We will keep the pace,” Efugh said

In Ilorin, El Kanemi Warriors drew goalless with hosts ABS FC to climb to second place on the table with 50 points, just a point behind leaders Kano Pillars.

The Warriors chairman Mohammed Zana said the point on the road was recorded without several of their top stars.

“It was a good game for us, our boys did so well and they deserved commendation. Some of our regulars like Hasan Hisein, and Raphael were not here, but we still got a point. We will keep working hard to have something to celebrate at the end of the season,” Zana said.
