The Korle-gonno based artiste Michael Kwame Alowonuga popularly known as Chameleon Dgm (Di Ground Master) has vividly revealed the story surrounding his music career. Alowonuga the ewe name meaning “it is the hand that do great works” hails as a voltarian. His showbiz name chameleon; able to change with the environment all came as a result of his versatility as far as music is concerned. He’s capable of delivering in all the music genres, but for now he’s specialising in the Reggae Dancehall. Now, let’s follow ?the unfolding story of our potential artiste.
Well, it all started as far back as class 5, when I used to act, sing, dance and even played football to say the least. In tapping into my pool of talents, I realised music was the most in-built that could take me to higher heights. Foremost, I began with the blending of foreign song lyrics with the local dialect inorder to emerge my own version. By then, I was fluent in the Ewe, English and later Patois.
Roughly, by 1999 I’d started playing with studio materials but my parents did not like the idea. My parents feared my exposure to music would ruin my education, hence tried to discourage me. From there, I began to bolt unnoticingly to studios and musical concerts to associate myself with such calibers. A very stiff opposition rised from my parents; I was denied certain rights at home, yet never gave up. All of the sudden reconciled all when fans began to ?shower praises on me, that was when my parents realised the need to support me.
In my full entering into the industry, I formed alliance with another artiste by name Galazy King, there we called ourselve the “Black Empire”. Jupita and Episode were later introduced by Galazy as new members of the group. In no time, Galazy and Episode broke away from the group, leaving myself and Jupita. We then changed the name of the group to “square” just because we were both called Michael. We then recorded our debut track tittled “Live”. From there, I recorded my first and hit single “Monalisa” with the trigger rhythm.
Later in 2010, Jupita also left, and the group dissolved, that was when I decided to work as a single artiste. I then recorded my second hit “Mo Kata Mo Wo” the adangme term which means “he who carries it, takes it”. I also recorded another explosion titled “Missed Called” alongside ace dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
Though, most would think it all happened on a silver platter, it’s never so A number of hurdles aroused. One was in the form of Financial hardships. Another, was in the form lack of sponsership and disappointments all over. Money to use in recording became a burden and had to go through hard times to raise ?funds to cater for studio fees. Sponsorship and promotion was also a burden. Denial from performing at certain functions respectively. I would therefore, advice everyone to focus in life no matter the obstruction.
Well, apart from the tragic times I also had meritous times. I was featured on the unprecendented grand music festival “K-Gee Risin” performing alongside top artistes like Tinny, Ayigbe Edem, Iwan, Trigmatic and many more. Despite this, I’ve made appearance at countless shows.
In early 2012, I found myself under the umbrellas of T. M Entertainment. Then, I made my next unstoppable into the music scene with “Sleepless Night” till then, more to come.
So, that was the story of surrounding our ace musician, Chameleon. Meanwhile, he has ongoing projects together with video clips set to be released officially this year. The said project include “Survival Story” and “Can’t take it no more”.
Just as the Economic goes “our wants are unlimited” so is life. Though, still under the T. M management he still welcomes ?sponsorship, promotions or performances. Any individual or organisation seeking his services could contact his publicist on[email protected].
Chameleon had just asked his fans to keep supporting him and wait patiently as he gives you his best. You can follow him on chameleondgm@facebook or?[email protected].
Merci Beaucoup.
Felix Acquaye.
