She said, it is important for every citizen who pays tax, whether direct or indirectly, to be involved in the budgeting process, to make tax collection easier .

This is so because people understand the need to pay tax and trust that the tax will be used for their benefit.

Ms Frimpong made the observation when a team from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Social Accountability Unit, and the leaders of the Media Accountability Network, called on her in Koforidua to brief the Regional Co-ordinating Council on a four-week budget campaign.

The media campaign in the region would be run in four municipalities, including New Juaben, Nsawam, East-Akyem and Kwahu West, through sensitization on radio networks, and the showing of audio visuals in communities within the municipalities.

The Deputy Minister indicated that, transparency in the budgeting process was a critical component in national development, and therefore gave the assurance that the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) would support the campaign to achieve its objective.

She also urged the Municipal Chief Executives, to give their maximum support to the media network in the region, since they stood to benefit immensely of getting an enlightened citizenry who would be willing to support their development programmes.
