The accused pleaded guilty.

Sumaila and Kakraba alias Kolanko, who were jointly charged with the accused, are on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Fuseini Yakubu told the court presided by Mrs Justice Rita Abena Doko that the complainant, Mavis Osei Tutu is a hairdresser and operates a drinking bar at Abenbobom and lived at Race Course near Takoradi.
The accused lives at Kwesimintsim.

Chief Inspector Yakubu said there were series of thefts at the complainant’s drinking bar, and at about 2300 hours December 5, the complainant locked up the bar and went to bed.

He said at about 06:00 hours the following day, the complainant detected that the door to the bar had been damaged.

Chief Inspector Yakubu said when she entered the spot, she realised her 52 inch LG flat screen television valued 5,000 Ghana cedis and 700 Ghana Cedis cash had been stolen.

He said the complainant’s investigations revealed that it was the accused and his accomplices who stole the items.

Chief Inspector Yakubu said at about 17:30 hours on December 7, the complainant met Sumaila at Abenbobom and confronted him, but Sumaila told her it was the accused who stole the television set and the money.

He said Sumaila took the complainant to the Kwesimintsim Football Park and pointed out the accused from a distance to her. The accused sensed danger and bolted but was arrested later.

He said Sumaila led the complainant to Kolanko?s room at Kwesimintsim where the LG television set and a 32 inch Sharp television were discovered.

Chief Inspector Yakubu said the accused was handed over to the Kwesimintsim Police together with the exhibits. The accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and was charged after further investigations.
Giving the judgement, Mrs Justice Doko said stealing was becoming rampant in Sekondi-Takoradi and the sentence was to serve as deterrent to others.
