A sub-station error by Crotone coach, Massimo Drago, led to a major set-back for the Serie B side over the weekend. The 5-1 defeat of Crotone by Novara is one of the heaviest defeat against the Italian second tier side in recent times.

A hasty 25th minute substitution of former the Wa All Stars defensive midfielder, Bright Addae, led to the ignominious defeat of Crotone last Saturday.

In what was anticipated to be a game of three Ghanaian players, it was only Bright Addae who made it into the first team selection of Crotone.

Ahmed Ampima Barusso and Massaudu Alhassan all failed to make the first team selection of Novara.

Although Crotone was two goals down before the substitution of Bright Addae, many Crotone supporters believe the Ghanaian defensive pillar had done a yeoman job to keep the Novara forwards at bay and therefore should have been kept on the field to further stabilise the Crotone midfield.

Many Crotone supporters believe there would have been more goals against Crotone but for the rugged play of the Ghanaian defensive-midfielder even before the 25th minute mark when Bright Addae was substituted.

It therefore came as little surprise when most of the Crotone supporters openly expressed displeasure at Bright Addae?s substitution, although they could not stop what in the estimation of the supporters was a bad substitution.

The early substitution of Bright Addae left a gaping hole at the defensive third of Crotone which was overly exploited by the home team. In fact Novora had a field day when Bright Addae was taken out of the Crotone game.

It enabled the Novora midfielders to have absolute control of the middle third of the field to create more openings for their forwards. It was just a matter of time for Novora to translate their superiority into more goals.

Bright Addae?s absence after the 25th minute put a lot of pressure on the Crotone defense which crumbled easily on three occasions resulting in the eventual 5-1 defeat of Crotone.

Bright Addae was a member of the Black Satellites team that won the World Youth championship in Egypt in 2009.
