The 6th Anniversary celebration by the Chiefs and people of Dunkwa-on-Offin, which if not the timely intervention of the powers that be would have been marred by an alleged grand machination by the District Chief Executive Officer (DCE) for Upper Denkyira Hon Peter Obeng Owusu Ahyiaa Junior in his attempt to thwart its smooth process has successfully been held.

The DCE who according Nana Obeng Nuako III, Dunkwahene in an interview some days before the anniversary on the 10th November 2012 submitted to the Central Regional Police Commander a plea requesting for an order restricting the people of Dunkwa from holding the joyful event grounded on the reason that the chief has no customary rite to ride in a palanquin on the streets of Dunkwa, perform rituals at the shores of the Offin river at the time of celebration and that the situation at Dunkwa then was not safe let alone to stage any anniversary.

The DCE according to Nana Obeng Nuako III has earlier speculated statements on the airwaves, scaring residents and attendants that blood will spill?should the chief default any of the above reason.

All display of threats, manliness, bravado and braggadocios were?however lost following a thick police and military presence which engulfed the community, ensuring that the anniversary went on smoothly devoid of any act of sabotage masterminded by detractors.

News coming from under the carpet of Dunkwa Traditional Council reveals that the Hon Peter Ahyia the DCE hatched the above ploy under the influence of the Paramount Chief of Denkyira?Odeefuo Boa-Amponsem III, a relative of his whom, according to our findings is currently not in good terms with the Dunkwahene?over long standing chieftaincy litigation.

Readers who have been following our editions with keen interest would recall a publication captioned “Denkyira Paramount Chief Defeated at Court” which compounded a?paralegal conflict that cropped up between the two parties where Denkyira Paramount chief lost a legal battle to the latter at a reputable cape coast court of appeal?in his quest to destool the latter over what he described as a disregard for him.

Denkyira tried and tested customs and traditions as well as dunkwahene’s?contempt against him and Denkyira traditional council.

Notwithstanding these, the success of the anniversary in honor of Nana Obeng Nuako III on his ascension to the golden throne was colorful to write home about as it was riddled with pomp and stellar attendants of dignitaries from all walks of life, notably security and departmental heads plus a host of political figures.

The anniversary was again staged to help generate funds to beef up the educational status quo of the community and to give a classy finishing touch to a newly constructed traditional palace.

Speaking at the anniversary, Dunkwahene noted that all attempts by detractors be it within or without geared towards? tarnishing? the hard earned positive reputation of the community will never materialize since? chiefs and people of Dunkwa are committed to ensuring that the community is always safe to serve as a peaceful abode.
