In their communique released on Wednesday at the summit, regional leaders described what happened to Kenyan soldiers as a regional problem and not a war of an individual member state.

“The summit expressed its solidarity with the people and the government of Kenya following the attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists on the Kenya Defence Forces’ Amisom base at El Adde in Somalia which resulted in the death of many KDF soldiers,” said the statement.
Reading the communique, the outgoing EAC secretary general Dr Richard Sezibera said: “The summit condemned the attack and reaffirmed the community’s resolve to counter terrorism and insecurity in the region.”
During the meeting which was chaired by Tanzanian President John Magufuli, the EAC heads of state also launched the code of conduct to fight corruption in the private sector.
“The summit commended the commitment and aspirations of the private sector to play a leading role in the integration process,” the communique read in part.
The summit also endorsed the EAC vision 2050 and expressed its the commitment towards the full implementation of the vision.
The EAC vision 2050 aims to transform East Africa into an upper-middle income region which is secure and politically united. Enditem
