Cape Verde have likely ended Equatorial Guinea?s hopes of advancing to the next stage of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying after a 2-1 win in Praia on Sunday.
It is the first points of the campaign for the Blue Sharks, but they are already out of the running.
Equatorial Guinea now need to win both their remaining matches and hope Tunisia lose both theirs to finish top, a highly unlikely scenario.
Cape Verde were ahead after 17 minutes in this match through Babanco, before Djaniny added a second eight minutes into the second half.
The visitors pulled a goal back through Jonatas Obina just a minute later, but could not force an equaliser.
Next up for Cape Verde is a home match against Sierra Leone next weekend, while Equatorial Guinea host Tunisia.
