He said the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is in areas like education, where schools are being provided in the Tema community.

Mr Gary Miller, OMA Group Managing Director said the organisation is involved in fitness programmes and clean up activities.

The festival, which comes on at the Tema Sports Stadium in collaboration with Ipswich Town Football Academy and Yinson Holdings Berhad on Saturday, September 24, is aimed at promoting education and instilling core values through the game of football.

It was launched on February 28, 2015, with the motto: “Encouraging Values & Inspiring Children.”

The project stakeholders are the Ghana Education Service and National Sports Authority.

The project being undertaken with additional funding from Yinson, making the idea a reality has evolved into a fantastic programme working with five schools in Tema, potentially influencing 2500 children.

OMA Ghana has employed two coaches full time who visit each school every week to deliver football coaching and work with the schools’ PE teachers to help them deliver a full range of sports activities for boys and girls.

The children are picked after a talent hunt at the “after school development centre” at the Tema Sports Stadium.

The five public schools in Tema selected as model schools for the project are: Community 7 Primary School, Community 8 Primary School, Twedease Primary School, Republic Road Primary School and Batsonaa Primary School.

Currently the team is made up of 36 boys who are part of the Development Centre receive coaching, hygiene and life tips from the coaches four days in a week.

To move the project to the next level, about four months ago a netball programme was introduced for all girls in the five model schools and so far 28 of them have been invited to play the game.

The academic performance of each student is also monitored by the company and they are assisted financially any student who needs help for extra tuition.

Together with Yinson Productions Ghana, phase one of renovations at the five schools is completed, with phase two soon to begin.

A committee made up of Emmanuel Okyne-Tetteh from OMA Ghana who is leading the project, the British High Commission in Accra, Mr Miller and Mr Milton, are supporting the coaches and supplying all the kit, equipment and backup they need.
