Madam Mary Boatemaa Marfo, District Chief Executive for Sekyere East, has asked officers who have been engaged in the upcoming census on agriculture, to exhibit professionalism and deep sense of commitment.

This, she said, would ensure that the nation obtained a true and accurate data on the country’s agricultural sector.

Madam Marfo made the appeal at a ceremony to announce the official commencement of the census in the District and the deployment of enumerators and other census officials onto the field.

She said accurate data was important for policy formulation and implementation and it was important that those engaged to obtain the data did their work well to provide the true state of affairs in the agricultural sector.

She commended the District Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) for providing the needed training and skills to the officers to help them in the discharge of their duties.

Madam Marfo also called on the public to cooperate with the census officers and provide them with appropriate information to enable them generate accurate data.

Mr Raphael Dodzi Sorkpor, District Director of Agriculture, said so far, 81 officers from the Sekyere Afram Plains, Sekyere East, Sekyere Kumawu and Ejisu-Juaben Districts, have been trained and equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to conduct the exercise in their respective districts.

He said the exercise which was being conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service, sought to have detailed knowledge on the actual people involved in agriculture in all parts of the country.

The aim was to get the true situation of the agricultural sector and device appropriate strategies to address challenges and improve agro-industry and investments in the country.
