The Ghana National COVID-19 trust fund established by the government to raise funds to support the fight against the pandemic is running out of finances, an official said here late Friday.

Chairperson of the Trust Fund Sophia Akuffo said the situation threatened the realization of the objectives for setting up the fund.

Speaking at the inauguration of the COVID-19 Brand Ambassadors, Akuffo, a former Chief Justice of Ghana, urged the public and private organizations to donate in support of the fund to ensure its efficiency.

“The COVID-19 National Trust Fund has, to date, spent an amount of 50 million Ghana cedis (8.6 million U.S. dollars) out of the little above 57 million cedis received from more than 600 donors,” she said.

“Our financial resources have dwindled to a little over seven million cedis, and we do not know what surprises the novel coronavirus might throw against us again,” said Akuffo.

She urged the Brand Ambassadors for the COVID-19 National Trust Fund to go all out to educate the public on their activities and do their best by every legitimate means to help to combat the virus. Enditem
