Baffour Obutu Frimpong the Third, chief of Essaso-Amanfrom, in the Asamankese Traditional Area, has urged the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), to help curb accidents on our roads during the Easter festivities.
The Union should also make public safety its priority, to curb accidents.
Baffour Obutu made the call when he interacted with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Essaso-Amanfrom, in the West Akim Municipality.
He urged other transport associations to also put the safety of people first, before and after the Easter festivities.
He remarked: ?The safety and security of passengers, including the general public, must take precedence over all other considerations of the Transport Unions.?
He asserted that most of the accidents caused on the Asamankese ? Nsawam, Asamankese ? Kade, Asamankese ? Suhum and Asamankese – Akroso roads were human errors, and classified some of them as over-speeding, drunkenness and non-maintenance of vehicles.
He asked the various Transport Unions to endeavour to organize periodic education for their members, since most of the commercial drivers are not abreast with road signs and the highway code.
