The minister made the remarks on national radio on Monday during a program to respond to questions raised by listeners.

Camara said the country’s obsolete drainage system, unable to deal with excessive rain water, led to a lot of stagnant water in Conakry, the capital.

The Guinean capital is not the only region facing the poor road and drainage network. Majority of the provincial roads are in an equally poor state, the national radio reported Monday.

The Guinean government has recently adopted a proposed law on protection of Guinea’s national road network, which stipulated that the construction and maintenance of the national road network will be carried out by the ministry of roads or the country’s regions and communes. Enditem
