The National Chairman of the opposition NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey says the party would not relent on its struggle to prove that results declared by the Electoral Commission do not reflect the will of the people.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd in Kumasi to climax the party?s demonstration Tuesday against the conduct of the December 7 polls, he indicated that the decision of the party to reject the 2012 presidential results was in response to outcry by numerous supporters of the NPP.

?I am also here to tell you that the leadership of the party has heard you; we heard you even before you spoke; that is why the National Executive Committee rejected the results and we said we will challenge the results in the Supreme Court.?

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey conveyed the commitment of the party in the struggle to the supporters, stressing, ?The struggle continues, the struggle is not over, we shall continue with this struggle until victory is ours.?

Though many expected the party?s flag-bearer to show up, he could not make it. The party chairman apologized on his behalf, saying Nana Akufo-Addo was busy perusing and finalizing evidence with the legal team to storm court.

He said the legal team is working hard ?to make sure that if we take that case to court, there is no chance that it can be likely dismissed?.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told the gathering he was convinced it was based on lies and falsehood that EC chair declared John Mahama the winner of the elections.

He said he has therefore summoned the Chairman of EC, Dr Afari Gyan before God, and was certain he will suffer for his action, emphasising that Dr Gyan?s name would be associated with any election rigging for years to come.

Mr Samuel Pine, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party described the turn out for today?s event as great, adding the party was satisfied that many concur with them that the election was rigged for the ruling party.

He told Joy/MultiTV?s Top Story the party did not send any petition to the regional EC because the decision to do so was struck out at the eleventh hour because they thought that was not necessary.

He said the motive of the party to contest the results in court was merely to test the law and not because they want to win the case at all cost.

?If the court rules that indeed we are guilty or that we have lost the case, definitely as law-abiding citizens of the nation we will take the decision of the court in good spirit and that would be it; but if there is anything else then other action can follow.?
