The development affected a river and diverted the flow into Buanchor community

No fewer than 20 residential buildings in Buanchor in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State were swept away by flood Sunday night following four days of rains.

Hundreds of residents were displaced by the incident.

Eye witnesses said on Monday that the flood was caused by a landslide, which blocked River Kaala, traversing the community.

The witnesses said that the landslide temporarily changed the course of the river and diverted its waters into residential areas of the town.

One of the eyewitnesses, Peter Bette, said that ?the disaster struck after four days of torrential rains??; adding that he visited the area to assess the extent of damage to a secondary school in the community.

Bette, who is also the Executive Secretary, Boki Local Government Education Authority, said the disaster took residents by surprise and rendered many of them homeless.

Another eyewitness, Evelyn Abang, said that all the bridges and culverts leading into Buanchor from Katabang community had been swept away.

The displaced residents appealed to the Cross River State Government and the state?s Emergency Management Agency to come to their aid.
