Onofowora stabbed the victim, her husband, and a customer

An Igbosere Magistrate Court, on Thursday in Lagos, sentenced a 23-year-old man, Waisu Onofowora, to seven months imprisonment for stabbing a bar owner and a customer.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Gbenileke Agoi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 9, at No. 46 Obalende Road, Obalende, Lagos.

Agoi said that the defendant entered a bar owned by one Emilia Ekong, and requested for a drink.

He said that while the woman was about to serve him with the drink, her phone rang and the defendant thought she was calling the police, so he attacked her.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant also used a broken bottle to stab Robbert Ekong, Emilia’s husband and a customer, Roland Okon, both of whom tried to rescue the woman from his grip.

He said that the defendant was drunk as at the time of committing the offence which contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Onofowora pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of unlawful assault.

The magistrate, O. Layinka, found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him to seven months in prison.
