Banana Island took the converted ‘Mayfair’ spot in the City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly launched by Babatunde Fashola, the executive governor of Lagos State, on Tuesday.

Banana Island is an artificial island in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is located in the Lagos Lagoon and attached to the North-Eastern Ikoyi Island by a dedicated road strip which is linked to the existing road network. The banana-shaped island, which was constructed by the construction arm of the Chagoury Group – HiTech, has the highest rent rate and sales proposal amount in Nigeria.

Other landmarks in Lagos State on the Lagos Edition of the board game include, Awolowo Road, the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Bourdillon Road, Muson Center, Makoko, and Tin Can Island, among others.

The launching, held with great fanfare at the City Hall in Lagos, finalised the conception, delivery and placement of Lagos among the rare list of major world cities with their own variant of Monopoly.

Brought to the market by Bestman Games with the support of the Lagos State Government, First Bank of Nigeria Plc and GTBank Plc and other esteemed partners, the City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly enhances the profile of Lagos and Nigeria by presenting the mega city on the world stage in a fun and attractive way.

It, also, introduces a powerful tool for children, as they grow up, to play a board game that they can relate to and that captures familiar streets, neighborhoods and leading brands, which other board games currently do not address.

Earlier at a press conference at a press conference held at Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi area of the state on Monday, Mrs. Nimi Akinkugbe of the Lagos-based Bestman Games said her company was very excited to bring the Lagos edition to the country.

?We hope to enhance the profile of African cities starting with Lagos,? she said. ?There is so much negativity portrayed about Africa and we hope that through this game, we will present Lagos to the world in a very positive way.?

The Lagos Edition of the board game will be available on sale nationwide in two sizes – the square and rectangular, and will be on sale in major retail outlets and on diverse online portals, including Jumia, Konga and Amazon.
