Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah – President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has said his outfit has held discussions with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS to find ways of supporting national athletes in the wake of the corona virus pandemic.
Accoridng to Mr. Nunoo Mensah most national athletes were amateurs need support to survive in these trying times.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Nunoo Mensah said the sports men and women also need support, since they havs also been affected by the stay home policy adding that, soprts also contributes to the socio-economic development of the nation.
“They also put the nation on the international map therefore advertise for the nation aside the joy and honour they bring to all,” he added.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah said they were putting together a paper for the ministry and this would inform the ministry on how to develop a support package for the athletes.
Commenting on the posponement of the 2020 Olympic Games, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah said it was a step in the right direction adding that, it was good to protect and save lives than putting athletes at risk.
He urged all to abide by the stay home directive to stop the spread of the virus.
