All ministers, parliamentarians and civil servants in Namibia will be from this year asked to declare their assets and business interests, the country’s President Hage Geingob has said.Namibia
Initially the declaration of assets was only meant for political office bearers but in his first State of the Nation Address Tuesday, Geingob extended it to civil servants.
Geingob said he would declare his assets and business interest in May when the audit company he has hired to do audit his businesses is done.
He also said his wife, businesswoman Monica Geingos would declare her assets although she is not entitled to do so.
“In the same vein of transparency, I will also release my medical health reports for public scrutiny. These disclosures will be made in line with the belief that transparency starts at the top.
“I am deeply convinced that accountability, transparency and inclusive leadership are “conditio sine quo non” for sustained socioeconomic development and the improvement of the lives of all our people,” he said.
He said the Prime Minister will make sure that all civil servants equally disclose all outside interests and sources of income.
“All ministers and their deputies will be required to issue Ministerial Declaration of intent that will constitute a contract with the public of delivery to which they will be held accountable, ” he said. Enditem
