Distributes booklets on banking to secondary school students
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has disclosed plans to expand the distribution of its basic knowledge on banking booklets to all Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) nationwide.
The Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Hardi Bichi, said in a statement, that NDIC started the project in 2010 with 7 states: Kano, Bauchi , Yobe, Oyo, Benue, Jigawa and the FCT.
“This was part of efforts to promote financial literacy among youths,” he said.
According to him, the booklets were being distributed to schools by the state ministries of education through NDIC’s zonal offices in Kano, Bauchi, Yola, Sokoto, Ilorin, Benin, Enugu and Port Harcourt.
The 19-page booklet covers important issues on basic financial concepts, including definition of a bank, types of financial institutions and the reason depositors should keep their money in banks.
