Nigeria Club Captains To Meet

The Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON) will this weekend hold a one-day retreat for club captains in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and Nigeria Nationwide League (NNL).

The retreat according to the secretary of APFON, Austin Popo, will hold in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday February 8.

Our Correspondent in Benin reports that, the programme will serve as a veritable tool to educate the league players through the club captains, on the options of investment portfolios available to them during their active career years, as well as their contractual relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Licensed Agents and the huge benefits of engaging an agent in contract negotiations and transfers.

The lecture, Popo said will be delivered by a financial expert from one of the notable financial Institutions in the country and a seasoned NFF Licensed Player’s Agent.

“The Retreat will equally deliberate on the establishment of the Player’s Pension Scheme and the Player’s Welfare Trust Fund amongst other issues,” Popo said.

Those expected to grace the retreat are the Edo State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Mobilization, Mr. Chris Okaeben, the State Football Association Chairman, Chief Abel Ehigie, members of the Association of NFF Licensed Player’s Agents, officials of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, national executives of APFON and members of Edo State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria among others.

Club captains in the Nigerian Professional Football League and Nigerian Nationwide League, are expected to arrive in Benin on Friday February 7.
