Opeikuma Residents Terrorise By Land-Guards.Residents of Opeikuma Teacher Block Factory near Kasoa in the Central Region have indicated that they are suffering in the hands of land guards and dubious double-land sellers of the area.

This was disclosed to Today at Opeikuma-Teacher Block Factory by the spokesperson of the residents (whose name is being withheld for victimization purposes).

He noted that residents do not have any problem with lands being sold by the chief of Opeikuma, Nana Opeih II, since those ones are genuine.

However, the problem they say is with land guards and the young men who resell lands and foment trouble.

The spokesperson mentioned the trouble makers in the area as ?one Jonathan, a son of a popular land owner called Nana Amankwando, Opoku, Kunku and many others who constitute a gang of land guards who resell lands in the area?.

He said that the forefathers of the trouble makers had already sold the lands which the residents are occupying now and so legally the trouble makers have no right to resell their legitimately acquired lands.

The residents revealed that the modus operandi of the trouble makers is the use of land guards on motorbikes who use cutlasses, guns and clubs to chase out residents whenever they go to their sites to develop their plots.

A source at Opeikuma Teacher Block Factory who spoke on condition of anonymity said the trouble makers resold a land to one W. O. Nyarko and when it came to light that the deal was a double sale, the land guards were unable to refine his money to him.

Another resident also testified that his house which was at lintel level was resold to another person, thereby the original owner losing GH?9000 which he is now struggling to collect from Jonathan and his cohorts.

When the said resident complained, a gang of land guards with machetes tried to frighten the victim from taking back his legitimate property.

The residents said if government, National Security and the police do not intervene quickly the matter can escalate and become a national calamity as the residents can also resort to rough tactics to defend their lives and property.

They said the land commission also has a role to play to ensure that persons whose land documents are not genuine are not entertained.
