Luck ran out on four cattle thieves, on Sunday, when they were apprehended by members of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) after a robbery.

The suspected armed robbers were nabbed in the early hours of Sunday as they fled the premises of ‘Eat More Farms’ in Maku village, along Ido/Omi Adio area, Abeokuta road, Ibadan, Oyo  State.

The suspects allegedly invaded the farm in a Mitsubishi van with registration number Lagos XV889KRD, and stole four cows.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers, on arriving at the scene, overpowered the lone security man, Adamu Usman, and tied him with rope before carting away the loot.

The witnesses said that members of the OPC were alerted and they mobilised and pursued the fleeing robbers.

The Chairman of the OPC in Ido Local Government Area, Muritala Ifawale, who led the surveillance activity, told journalists that the cattle robbers initially resisted arrest as they attacked the OPC men with dangerous weapons.

“By the time we eventually arrested the gangsters, their leader, popularly called Baba Titi the cattle merchant, pleaded profusely with us to ensure his release,” Ifawale said.

“He even went to the extent of saying he will negotiate with us, if we oblige him. But we stood our ground that we will hand over all of them to the Police, and that is exactly what we did.”

Ifawale thanked the state police command for their cooperation, and pledged the group’s continued support in ridding the Ido area and its environs of crime.

Meanwhile, the robbery suspects were said to have been handed over to the Ido Police Duty Post.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Command, Olabisi Ilobanafor, told journalists that the incident was yet to be brought to her notice.
