Gov. Amaechi?s suspension a setback to democracy, says Lawmaker

More reactions continue to trail the suspension of the Rivers Sate governor, Chibuike Ameachi, a member of the National Assembly, Mr Dakuku Peterside, has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for suspending the governor from the party, describing the action as ??undemocratic??.

Peterside, who represents Opobo/Nkoro (PDP) in the House of Representatives, said on Tuesday that the suspension was a setback to the quest for true democracy.

He said the Nigeria Governors? Forum was not an extension of the PDP.

?? Well, first, the suspension of the governor by his party, the PDP, is a major setback to Nigeria?s quest for true democracy.

?? It?s a huge blow to democracy and fundamentally violates the rights of an individual to associate freely, to vote and be voted for in any democratic process.

??As you are already aware, the NGF is not an extension of PDP; it is not governed by the constitution of the PDP.

?? In any case, the suspension of Gov. Amaechi is a major impediment to PDP?s future as a party because Amaechi is one of the shining stars of the party.

??He is one of what I call the show case of the party.??

Peterside said that Gov. Amaechi was one of the shining stars of the PDP, adding that he had achieved much to showcase the party.
